Notes from January meeting

Members took a brown bag home in order to participate in the Brown Bag Challenge. If you did not get your brown bag and wish to participate, please see Janice D'Eon or Anne Mattie. Instructions are included with the brown bag.

Upcoming workshops:

Wednesday 29 January - Sewing Kit - teacher: Anne Mattie
Wednesday 12 February - Basic sewing and seminole piecing - teacher: Janice D'Eon
Saturday 8 March - Summer Garden folded fabric applique - teacher: Kate Anderson

Our February meeting is normally when we collect donations to a local charity. This year, it has been suggested that we donate to "Roots for Youth". Anyone who wishes may bring a cash donation to our February meeting and all donations will be forwarded to Roots for Youth. Receipts will be issued for donations of $20 or more. This donation is totally voluntary.

Register your UFOs with Shelley Tye. So far, you would have a great chance of winning the pot! Each item registered is $1. For each item completed by our June meeting, you have a chance to win the pot.

Quilt Canada will be held in Niagara, Ontario, in June this year. The area is well known for beautiful scenery, many lakes, the St Lawrence seaway, Niagara Falls and also for many wineries. Gift wine bags will be presented to the delegates. If you wish to contribute a wine bag, a pattern can be found on the Canadian Quilters' Association web site:

If you make a bag, please bring it to our Guild meeting in March so all our wine bags can be sent in one parcel.

Our February meeting will see us holding a Strip Draw. Fabric strips should be 2 1/2 inches wide by the width of fabric, so roughly 2 1/2 inches by 40 inches. You can bring from 1 to 5 strips. For each strip that you bring, you will receive one ticket to win all the strips. Fabrics should be fall colours - no white, no Christmas colours - you get the picture! The winner of the draw will take home all the strips plus a pattern to use the strips.

Gloria Turnbull is our Quilt Show chairperson. She has issued two challenges:
Pin cushion challenge
Christmas tree ornament challenge

Every member is encouraged to make a pin cushion and a Christmas tree ornament and bring them to our May meeting and also, of course, to our Quilt Show on Saturday 31 May 2014.

See you at our February meeting on Wednesday 19 February.
